The Importance of Passion

Passion: strong and barely controllable emotion.

Without passion what are we? Passion is what drives us to be the best we can. Passion ignites a fire within you and burns for all too see. Passion is what gets us out of bed every day and keeps us going throughout the day. Yes, you can survive without it. Your not living though.

If you do not have passion its easy to get into a routine of waking up, drinking some coffee, going to work, coming home and going to bed. Over and over again. Your life is meaningless and I feel like it is very hard to be truly happy with passion. Something you care about. Something that really makes your blood boil, your heart melt or your brain expand.

You could be passionate about anything. Maybe your passionate about children? Your job? or maybe seeing homeless, starving people ignites something inside you. Maybe your passionate about traveling? Painting? Flowers? Sports? It could be anything. Its the thing that pulls you through the hardest days and love and desire of doing, experiencing, changing.

Character.

"Be more concerned with your character then your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are." -John Wooden

"Strength of character means the ability to overcome resentment against others, to hide hurt feelings, and to forgive quickly." -Lawrence G. Lovasik

"When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost." -Billy Graham

"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." -Helen Keller

Character. Probably the most overlooked value a person can strive for. Everyone tells you to work for power, greatness, education, money, reputation, your never taught in school how to achieve character and thats probably because it cannot be taught. It is formed out of trial and error, achievements and failure, hardship and learning. Sure you can make a living by building up a huge corporate company and sitting behind a desk overseeing a hive of ants and overlooking your empire. Some might say this is greatness, an ability to control a section of the world. But is that greatness? You've worked so hard to create this empire that the rest of your life has passed you by. You come home every night to an empty house and switch on the TV, just letting life go on around you. This is not greatness, this is achievements.

Character. Without it you are just another ant hiding under a rock of an easy life. Although achieving character is forged through fire and hardship, through these experiences you are able to rise out of a crowd of people and lead them with strength with a sure, true foot. People of character are the people who make a difference in this world. Who decide to leave the rock of comfort behind and strive for true greatness and think of others before themselves.

Without them, we are nothing.
